561200 plantaginea Species
Perhaps the best hosta for southern gardens, this is the only fragrant
hosta species. Shiny, light green leaves that hold up well with
moderate sunlight if kept well watered. May not be as hardy as
other hostas in the North. It can be grown in the North, but with some
risk of cold damage, possibly leading to fatal crown rot, because it
tends to come up very early in the spring. This tendency can also cause
it to be knocked back to the ground in warmer areas if there is a late
spring frost, but the plant usually recovers and produces new foliage.
Best known for its huge, white, trumpet shaped flowers, 5-6” long, by
far the largest of any hosta, with a wonderful fragrance.
